Description: Ethyl lauroyl arginate is synthesized by esterifying arginine with ethanol, followed by reacting the ester with lauroyl chloride. The resultant ethyl lauroyl arginate is recovered as hydrochloride salt and is a white, solid product which is filtered off and dried. Ethyl lauroyl arginate is composed of lauric acid, L-arginine HCl and ethanol. It is a preservative and is used to kill microbes and improve shelf life.

Lauric acid is the main acidic compound found in coconut oil. It may be safe in small quantities, but concentrated forms can be dangerous.

Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate HCl is used as a preservative with a new maximum concentration of 0.4% in all cosmetic products, and in addition as an anti microbial in soap, as anti-plaque in oral care products, as deodorant in deodorant products and anti dandruff agent in shampoos up to a maximum concentration of 0.8%
