Uses:  Acetic Acid Esters of Mono and Diglycerides of fatty acids are used in cake mixes and oven ready chips. For use in baked goods, including extensive use in bread and all types of dairy foods, margarine and ice cream. Also used extensively in bread and wheat based bakery goods, which give the home baked taste. Used in high fat bread, edible fats, whipped fats and meat products.

Used as grease thickeners in the lubrication industry and also form the basis for soaps and used in cosmetics to give the smooth, silky feel.

Although mainly vegetable oils are used, the use of animal fat (incl. pork) can not be excluded. Therefore vegans and religious groups may want to avoid these products. Only the producer can give detailed information on the origin of the fatty acids.

Chemically the fatty acids from vegetable or animal origin are identical. The tests were carried out only over 2 years and are therefore not complete. Also used in Cadbury’s chocolate bars to make the chocolate spread further therefore cutting costs but charging the same price.

In large amounts it can interfere with intestinal function. It can less frequently cause diarrhoea, thirst, dizziness and mental confusion.

Description: Acetic Acid Esters of Mono and Diglycerides of fatty acids, are mainly from synthetic fats, produced from glycerol and natural fatty acids, mainly from plant origin, but also fats of animal origin may be used. What are fatty acids? The product generally is a mixture of different components, with a composition similar to partially digested natural fat esterified with other natural acids, but these terms can be misleading. Occurs in fruit skins and nuts. It is all down to their extraction method.

These additional acids are a mixture of (acetic, lactic, tartaric, citric) and range in differing toxicities, depending on their extraction methods. Emulsifiers and stabilisers used in foods can upset the natural balance and can cause gastric upsets. The body metabolises the products as any other fat but because of their mixture with various types of oils and extraction methods, discretion is advised, especially in those sensitive.

Many fatty acids and their counterparts are extracted using many levels of petroleum based chemicals inc ether, hexane and tetrachloroethylene which is considered a known carcinogen.

These chemicals are harmful to the body, but they are used in the fats in bread which are labelled as fatty acids, which are considered healthy, which potentially is misleading to the general public.
