Uses: Oxidised Polyethylene Wax is used as a coating on citrus fruits and bananas. There is some uncertainty as to their long term use and toxicity.

They are basically ethylene polymer produced from petroleum. As they are mostly petroleum based, they would be toxic by way of ingestion long term.
