Uses: Polyvinylpyrrolidone-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer is used as a dispersing agent, colour stabiliser, Flavours and fragrances, pharmaceuticals.


The cross-linked form of PVP is used as a disintegrant (see also excipients) in pharmaceutical tablets. Used in artificial sweeteners in low joule foods and chewing gum and used as a clarifying agent in white wine and some beers and vinegar.


Also in personal care products like shampoo, toothpaste, paint and adhesives. Other names: povidone, PVP.


Carcinogenic. Avoid it. Light sensitive, hygroscopic. May cause damage to kidneys and stay in the system for up to a year. Can cause anaphylactic shock and also urticaria (hives). Avoid it.


Excess may cause damage to the lungs or kidneys, gas and faecal impaction.



Description: Polyvinylpyrrolidone-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer is a fully polymerised cationic copolymer with taste-masking and moisture protection properties. It is used as a pharmaceutical excipient and has potential use as a glazing/coating agent to solid food supplements
