Uses: 4-Hexylresorcinol, insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and ether, is used as an anthelmintic and antiseptic agent for mouthwashes and skin wound cleansers and anti-browning agent in foods.
It is suspected as being listed as additives that act as "xenoestrogens" - substances with oestrogen-like effects.
Xenoestrogens have been linked to a range of human health effects, including reduced sperm counts in men and increased risk of breast cancer in women. See E310.
Description: 4-Hexylresorcinol is produced by sulphonating benzene with fuming sulphuric acid and fusing the resulting benzenedisulfonic acid with caustic soda.
Used mainly in the photographic industry as a developer, and in the pharmaceutical industry to treat acne and other skin treatments. Also, it is used as an anti-dandruff agent in shampoo and sunscreen cosmetics.
They are used in manufacturing fluorescent and leather dyes and adhesives
