Uses: Dimethylpolysiloxane is used in confectionary, cordials, syrups and toppings, soft drinks, instant coffee, vinegar, chewing gum, chocolates and cooking oils to prevent foaming. It is also and ingredient in ‘Silly Putty’
One of the biggest culprits who use this in US, China and Japan are McDonalds. It is not allowed for this purpose in the UK. These are also coated in E319 to hold their shape but has been found to be highly toxic in large doses.
E900 has not been fully tested but there are some concerns by cosmetic users of a link with cancer.
Description: Dimethylpolysiloxane is a silicone based water repellent, anti-foaming agent, emulsifier, anti-caking agent.
Fast food chains use this in their oil to prevent foaming and make the oil last longer, therefore saving on oil changes, but not passing on the savings.
